6 Ways Therapy With Roger is Different from Traditional Therapy
Accentuating the positive
Traditional therapy focuses primarily on negatives like fear, anger, anxiety, depression, addiction, and other conditions. With Roger, you discover your personal strengths and receive guidance to develop them.
His approach provides tools that can, miraculously, foster healing of challenging conditions.
Roger is not naïve: He knows that it seems easier to memorize the Bible than to change one thing about your self. He’s walked the walk and shares the experience underlying his hard-won love of life when that helps clients see that they are not alone. But “hard-won” is not “impossible.” You guessed it: Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
TAKING SIDES
Roger is not neutral—in a loving, safe way he takes sides. Roger calls clients on the destructive ways they “get to” or “get from” their partners. Psychoeducation helps each to see the toxic, unfair fighting or shutting down that results. Roger demonstrates clear, alternative ways to hear and be heard.
MINING FAMILY OF ORIGIN WORK
Traditional therapy usually takes a long time because the ways our childhood and adolescence set us up for adulthood are not effectively identified and dealt with.
Character can change. Roger sets a high bar for clients: He expects to see dramatic change once clients “get it” that they’re carrying, and mining early baggage much more than they care to notice or acknowledge. With Roger’s guidance and support, change often comes quickly and becomes permanent.
You don’t have to throw your parents under the bus to see the truth about what they did right and wrong and use that insight to heal and grow stronger.
WHY GROUP THERAPY ALONG WITH INDIVIDUAL, COUPLE AND FAMILY WORKS?
Almost everyone has had that “why me” experience where it seems no one has suffered like them. Group therapy, with individuals and couples, accelerates healing, and provides the wondrous experience of seeing that we are not alone.
Roger empowers group members to “be there” for each other. They learn to overcome deeply set, reactive behavior patterns and relate to the others in new ways that prove satisfying and healing for everyone.
Sometimes moving from individual and couple therapy to group therapy can accelerate healing for individuals and couples. Also, it costs less.
BEING FOR ONE’S SELF AS WELL AS FOR THE OTHER(S)
Roger believes that no one can have a better relationship with another then the one they have with them selves. That’s why he splits “themselves” into its components: them and selves. This initially confusing idea is at the core of what makes therapy different with Roger.
As humans, the better we take care of our selves, the better we take care of others. It turns out that even those who appear to be self less are first taking care of them selves. To many, that may make no sense, but Roger will show you that, beneath the mask, we all are survivors. The devil is in the details. Let’s turn this riddle into insight and education that can work everyday miracles for you and those you love or would love to love better.
FAMILY THERAPY AND FAMILY BUSINESS THERAPY
A family is a system of individuals who develop a unique way of relating to each other. Where there’s a family, especially one that supports a family business, individual and couple therapy too often ignore the powerful dynamics that plague everyone in the system.
Roger shows families how their “the more the more” dances predict repetitive negative patterns of behavior and what to do about them. His background as a personal financial and estate planning lawyer, CPA, and Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) informs insight into family dynamics that everyone will recognize when he spotlights them.
Making sense of that becomes the platform for constructing a way out of the generational transmission of dysfunctional patterns of behavior. That can liberate the family from its self imprisonment and release a synergy that will enhance the family’s capability to capitalize on its unique strengths.
It took a second career as a psychotherapist to augment Roger’s business skills with the unique therapeutic skills indispensable to effective work with families.

Here are some pros and cons of group vs individual vs couples therapy:
-
-
- Group therapy, whether as a couple or individually, group is more affordable and offers the unique dynamic of people working together to share their experience, strength and hope.
- In Group Therapy, your struggles are normalized as you relate to others going through similar issues.
- Working 1:1 or 2:1 (as a couple) with Roger can yield faster results. You receive more personalized and direct care working 1:1 or 2:1 (as a couple) with Roger.
